The First Post

Well, here we are. The first post of hopefully a long and storied career of hockey blogging, and it might as well come on a day as odd as this. Somehow the Red Wings lose to the Islanders 6 to 0. Yep, you read it correctly.6 TO 0. Personally, I didn't watch the game, but anytime Detroit loses 6 TO 0 against the New York Islanders, something just isn't right.

But I'll hushup, because the Thrashers, after losing 8 to 1 to Ovechkin and the Caps, beat the Senators 6 to 1. I'm actually watching the replay of the game as I write this.Exciting game, except for the slightly one-sided score, that is.But I won't get my hopes up though, because Thrasher captain Ilya Kovalchuk isn't talking about contract negotiations, which will most likely cause them to trade him. His crazy-good wrist shot will be missed, as will his pure offensiveness if he is indeed traded. Supposedly the L.A. Kings are the biggest possibillity for a trade. Imagine how deadly he could be there with Kopitar, though the least I would take for him would be defenceman Jack Johnson and left-winger Alexander Frolov. Maybe even throw in a draft pick for old time's sake. Wishful thinking though, as Thrashers GM Don Waddell has never been one to make great trades (the Heatley trade had to be made, and the Hossa trade could have been better).

In other games around the league, Martin Broduer racks up shutout # 106 or 107 (Yahoo! Sports isn't great with stats) tonight in a great game against Henrick Lundqvist and the N.Y. Rangers. Carolina beat Toronto in a battle for next years #1 draft pick. The Flyers double up Dallas 6-3 as the continue to try to turn their season around. Tampa Bay out-duels Washinton 7-4 with 2 third period goals. St. Louis beat Columbus 4-1. Nasville continues their suprisingly good season with a 5-3 win over the Oilers. And lastly, San Jose put away Phoenix 3 to 1.
